→ Tacos & Toppings

13 - 8 hard taco shells
14 - 1 cup shredded lettuce
15 - 1 medium tomato, diced
16 - 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican cheese blend
17 - 1/2 cup sour cream
18 - 1/4 cup sliced black olives (optional)
19 - 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
20 - 1 lime, cut into wedges

# How to Make It:

01 - Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned, about 5 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
02 - Add onion and garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 2–3 minutes.
03 - Stir in tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, black pepper, and cayenne (if using). Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
04 - Pour in beef broth or water. Simmer for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat.
05 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Place hard taco shells on a baking tray and heat for 5 minutes until crisp.
06 - Spoon the beef mixture into each taco shell. Top with lettuce, tomato, cheese, sour cream, olives, and cilantro. Serve with lime wedges.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The beef filling comes together in one skillet, meaning less cleanup and more time eating
  • Hard shells stay perfectly crisp when warmed in the oven, avoiding that soggy disappointment
  • Everyone builds their own tacos, so picky eaters and adventurous eaters both leave happy
02 -
  • Draining excess fat after browning the beef keeps the filling from getting too greasy
  • Letting the spices cook with the tomato paste releases their essential oils for deeper flavor
  • Warming the shells prevents them from shattering when you bite into the taco
03 -
  • Use freshly ground black pepper instead of pre ground, the difference is noticeable
  • Let the beef mixture rest for a few minutes off the heat so the sauce clings to every bite
